The theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “ 2013 Radiothon Part 2 “.

Good afternoon Jon, and greetings once again from Coventry.

I’ll keep things brief this week, I know you have a huge show today in the RRR performance space, including I believe something very special from Dan Warner a bit later – just hope he keeps his clothes on.

Living overseas only reinforces how unique RRR, and community radio in general is in Melbourne – over here they would kill for the level of independence and community support – it should be treasured.

So, if you haven’t already, why not ring up and join the party.

Okay, I’ll get off my soapbox and let “Pig” Mills climb onto his as we head back to the neighbourhood.

Radiothon 2013 – A party to subscribe to (Part 2)

Last week we left “Pig” Mills at a party in rude health
He’d just unearthed a massive cake, even larger than himself

He sensed this cake had substance; not your everyday vanilla
He suspected it held more than simply sweetener and filler

He crept up to the pastry and slipped around the back
Scraped away the icing till he’d forced a tiny crack

With the tact of a drunk proctologist and the subtlety of bleach
He thrust his fingers through the crust until he’d caused a breach

The cake, at once, erupted: spewing forth a shower of treats
Alt and roots, garage, lounge, interviews and beats

Electronic, embryonic, the ignored and rarely heard
Chilled, distilled, raw and grilled, shaken as well as stirred

Emerging and the overlooked: vintage, new and next
Talk back, gardening and food, spoken word and text

Assorted flavours given air, each a unique taste
Crafted individually, not just cut and paste

Technology and theatre, sketch, environmental
Information, exploration, rediscovery, experimental

Architecture, science, philosophy and arts
The young, the fresh, the eager and still passionate old farts

Not ruled by eras, genres, gender, age, ego, fashion
Ideas, uncaged, risks embraced, gloss defers to passion

The frivolous, the serious, understated and the vocal
A boundless global palette, the context clearly local

Adventurous, reflective, anarchic, fearless, witty
RRR is of this town – it lives and breathes this city

In a moment of lucidity, which for “Pig” were pretty thin
He realised there’s no party unless everyone joins in

“Community?” he pondered, in itself a revelation
“Community” at last, he grasped “Means participation”

Exhausted, he scoffed some cake: put on his party hat
“A party to subscribe to: even “Pig” subscribes to that
