Bland On Bland – The BookThe theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “ Being embraced in someone’s arms “.

First to admit a bit of an odd one, but after giving the ideas a bit of room to sort themselves out, this one just almost wrote itself.

JVG and I discussed fireplaces and gas heaters (the things that we find to discuss on a Sunday afternoon). It turns out that Ed has five fireplaces.. before this descends any further here is this weeks poem

Ed “#FiveFire Places” Bates, provided his inimitable backing. Have a listen to how it went below…

Being embraced in someone’s arms

Being embraced in someone’s arms

He hadn’t kissed a man before; never, in his life
He hadn’t felt such passion, not even with his wife

Emotions, finally off the leash, it brought a strange relief
Beyond our manicured facades, who knows what lies beneath?

It happened in the moment, abandoning all tact
Completely out of character, a mad, impulsive act

Perhaps born of frustration; feelings long suppressed
Buried deep, desires and needs, held too close to his chest

He was usually so restrained, aloof, bourgeoisie
Why here, in a public place, for all the world to see?

He’d come here on occasion, though strictly to observe
He never fraternised, who’d have thought he had the nerve?

He would quash inner doubts with “I’m not one of them”
Still he kept on coming back; again, again, again

Neither knew the other’s name, yet here they were embracing
They fell into each other’s arms, minds and hearts were racing

He’d had a wine, or two, or three, yes he’d had a bit to drink
Yet for one so image conscious not to care what people think

He pulled the stranger to his breast, he could no longer hide
Such ecstasy, unbridled joy; they hugged and kissed and cried

He turned to those surrounding them, who cares if tongues should wag
Blissful tears glazed his cheeks; The Dogs had won the flag
