The theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “ Exclamation Mark! “.
One week back from the madness that is 3RRR Radiothon ( and thanks to everyone who subscribed) and Jon decides that life hasn’t really been hard enough so he chooses “Exclamation Mark!” as a theme. I mean c’mon Jon, it’s a piece of punctuation not a theme.
Still I did enjoy it, let me know what you think.
This week I had Ed Bates on the guitar playing up a storm, one of his better ones.

Listen! Exclamation mark! Bolder, coarser, prouder!
Am I growing weary or are words growing louder?
Highlighted, underlined, caps to give them clout!
Broadcast, texted, printed: These days they have to shout!
Inflection, the sentiment: the way they’re strung together
Silken, supple, threads replaced with scraps of toughened leather
Journalists, like tramps, scratch for stories in the trash
Announcers, whose integrity, is compromised by cash
Is honesty for fools? Is subtlety for wimps?
Are we now the hookers? or are we now the pimps?
What manipulates our mood so fear and doom prevail?
Is the answer in the story or the teller of the tale?
Oligarchic cartels that dominate our press?
Suckered by their prejudice, or worse, we couldn’t care less?
Now everyone’s a blogger, and every twit’s on twitter!
Safe behind their handle: self righteous, caustic, bitter!
Reality is virtual: the web’s the new theology!
My doggerel’s no more valid but at least its old technology!
I’m born again – a Luddite: Peace reigns in the dark
Why does every sentence need an exclamation mark!?!
