Bland On Bland – The BookThe theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “Global“.

A good theme this week and one that I could get my teeth into.

A lot of strong opinions on the topic from all the participants on the show, and none really in favour of globalisation.

One of those weeks when I got to write something with a bit of substance. I enjoyed it.

No Ed to provide the guitar backing this week, but have a listen to how it went below…

Global

The global village; lovely in theory
‘We are the world’ – I could almost get teary

All holding hands, nothing to lose
Balalaikas, bagpipes and didgeridoos

Globalisation appeals to our vanity
It’s about economics, bugger humanity

Utopia realised; one big general store
Where rich become richer and poor remain poor

Workers enslaved ensure industries thrive
Twenty hour days? At least they’re alive

To become truly global there are some sacrifices
Stop asking questions! – just enjoy lower prices

Competitive markets mean winners and losers
We just buy their products; we’re not the abusers

Tyrants and dictators; let’s make it clear
That’s a cultural issue, we can’t interfere

Nobody’s perfect, let’s keep it real
Why let the odd murder stuff up a deal?

The last thing we need is another blockade
We can’t allow ethics to jeopardise trade

There’s the odd disagreement and renegotiation
Don’t call it war – it’s deregulation

Carve up the planet and sell off the farms
We’ll take your blood diamonds if you buy our arms

We’re here to do business, not here to preach
Free enterprise doesn’t cover free speech

The powerful still plunder, the rest are collateral
Globalisation is still unilateral
