September 23, 2018 | Ian Bland | Leave a comment The theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “Higher Power“. Officially this weeks theme is ” Songs with prominent exclamation directed to a higher power…” Really Jon? I mean that’s halfway to a haiku all by itself. The moment I read Jon’s email a voice began chanting ‘Canberra’. Most of you would have heard of Canberra. It used to be the seat of government in Australia before it was hijacked by self-serving autocrats who believe the minority speak for the majority. Democracy? Ed Bates provided the guitar backing, have a listen to how it went below… To play this poem directly in your browser – just click the “play” button below: https://ianbland.com.au/audio/JVG_Poem20180923.mp3 Higher Power Dear God, why do you punish us? I’m not referring to the drought It’s these dickheads up in Canberra; can’t you sort them out? The Liberals are imploding; as united as Cain and Abel They’re making Italy’s parliament look relatively stable Small ‘L’s’ and conservatives can’t seem to agree anymore As with Howard’s views on promises; some values appear non-core The right wing of the party refuses to call it quits As for what the voters want, the right don’t give two shits They were stung by marriage equality: Non-binding plebiscites We already have a democracy; who needs equal rights? The right want things done their way; who cares about the nation? Bullying? Turn it down, it’s more involuntary persuasion Female MP’s bailing out: they weren’t that hard to coax Replace them with more robust types; that’s Liberal speak for ‘blokes’ Shouldn’t be in the kitchen if they can’t stand the heat So said Fierravanti Wells: she’s not giving up her seat Bully them out of parliament; the old quid pro quo Shouldn’t be in the kitchen? Seems that’s where you want them to go Quotas? PC garbage; the Libs encourage women to stand They’re welcomed at pre-selection; as long as they lose to a man Tony says he’s sticking round; of that he makes no bones Along with the party’s leaders; Ray Hadley and Alan Jones The ‘broad church’ as Howard called it; is looking less and less It’s now about as broad as a column in the Murdoch Press So do us all a favour God, pull them into line Not talking plague or pestilence; a subtle little sign Hit them with a bolt from the blue; that ought to lay them flat That’s a lightning bolt, not Andrew; God no-one deserves that © Copyright 2018 Ian Bland Also have a listen to “Everything or Nothing” Everything And Nothing by Ian Bland Share this:TweetEmailMoreTelegram
