The theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “Madness“.

Jon has gone to the Golden Plains concert and left Dr Pump in charge. The show has a very different feel as a result. Today there are two poems and I have left the whole conversation with Dr. Pump as well. It’s a personal sort of segment this week.

Ed was playing up the bush this week.

Madness

She haunts the ward
Fossicking for riches, foraging, uninvited.
Wardrobes, drawers, bedside tables
A toothbrush, reading glasses, aah, a cigarette lighter

Precious bounty, to be encased in foil and salted away, laid to rest in one of the pot plants dotting the enclosed veranda.

She sits on her bed, back to the door

Gentle hands, carefully working the foil.
Sure hands, purposefully moulding, embalming, preserving yet another soon to be forgotten treasure – a rare prize.

Everything in its place – perfectly packaged – perfect order.

A worker bee, a soldier ant, methodically collecting, preparing, storing – dutifully obeying an instinctive urge – never questioned.

Neither joy nor anguish
Pride nor shame
Loss nor achievement

Naked
Stripped of ego and conscience

A carcase trimmed of all fat.
A salmon content in a pond.
A lingering scent in a room long empty.

The purity and freedom of function.
The essence.
The words to the poems will be along shortly
