Bland On Bland – Pivot

Bland On Bland – The BookThe theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “Pivot“.

The poem this week is largely a reaction to the last week or two’s events news stories. Jon proved the perfect outlet…

Ed Bates provided the music backing and sound effects. Thatch provided the audio production, have a listen to how it went below…

Pivot

“You promised we’d go to the beach Dad, you even crossed your heart”
“Things have changed” “Changed, like what?” “I’ve changed my mind for a start”

The ancient art of the pivot; a means of escaping dissent
When combined with the hedge and the back-flip it could be an Olympic event

They pivot in netball, football, hockey; not forgetting the Boxing Day Test
But you have to travel to Parliament House to see pivoting at its best

Reactive, inventive, shameless, deceptive; from the laughable to the obscene
They pivot while denying they’re pivoting; from a T-Shirt to a submarine

They pivot so quickly and often they near drill a hole in the floor
Flexible commitment, or as John Howard once said ‘some promises are non-core’

Of course, none of them lie – merely modify truth; don’t evade, simply by-pass
They pivot for votes, they pivot for perks and they pivot to cover their arse

They’re ‘Against’, hang on ‘for’; non-committal but sure; yes and no but can’t really say
Once their opponents start pivoting then they pivot the other way

They can pivot while stacking the branches or the odd parliamentary expense
But it’s hard to pivot a Jaguar once you’ve stacked it into a fence
