May 19, 2013 | Ian Bland | Leave a comment Photo By Jools Thatcher The theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “Rebellion“. Afternoon Jon and once again greetings from Coventry. One positive of the rubbish summer we’ve been having over here, is I’ve been able to catch up on quite a bit of reading , including a history of The Hundred Years War, which incidentally lasted one hundred and fifteen years, but that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. Also a couple of recent articles in the press have raised my blood pressure and they’ve all sort of converged to produce this week’s rather angry offering. Consent can never be implied by how we choose to dress The toxic undercurrent, “They get what they deserve” When law colludes with culture and becomes the gods we serve Twisted, blinkered ethics; self righteous, heartless, mores It is they who are perverted, they who are the whores Scriptures, through ambiguity, must share in our damnation Words, usurped, distorted, to suit man’s interpretation The freedoms we have forged can never be presumed While the dogma of the past is allowed to be exhumed Rights, hard won, still pregnable, can easily retract Rebellion is a constant, not a solitary act The enemy we fear, hibernates within The devil walks closest to those denouncing sin When religions rule our values, the liberties they take Morality, itself, risks burning at the stake © Copyright 2013 Ian Bland Share this:TweetEmailMoreTelegram
