Bland On Bland – Relinquishing Control

Bland On Bland – The BookThe theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “Relinquishing Control“.

A serious poem for serious times and then even more worryingly JVG had huge technical issues the remote software he was using and had to  “relinquish control” and abandon the show.  Lockdown and COVID are making for interesting times

Ed Bates provided the guitar backing and sound effects and Thatch provided the audio production, have a listen to how it went below…

Relinquishing Control

Stung by disquiet and uncertainty, we grieve our wandering star
As the guise of empathy is stripped revealing who we truly are

The measure of society, an obligation we all share
Is the treatment of the vulnerable, those entrusted to our care

It says much about our ethics, and how we value one another
When a dog groomer earns more than those caring for your mother

Those tending to our loved ones are equally betrayed
Understaffed, undertrained and grossly underpaid

Busy lives and glossy brochures can override sixth sense
It takes a bloody virus to expose the whole pretence

While callous, pragmatists bemoan “They’re old, they’d had their run”
We damn our God’s to servitude once the Pharisees have won

We long to return to ‘normal’, liberated from this mire
Instead, perhaps the time has come to aim a little higher
