The theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “Ring“.

A serious poem today for a serious topic.

Ed Bates provided today’s guitar backing, have a listen to how it all went below…

Missing, one gold ring; a simple wedding band
Last seen adorning the third finger, left hand

A symbol of commitment, deep affection; nothing more
Though viewed as costume jewellery, as it stands, under the law

Is it not a right to see devotion celebrated?
To be recognised as equal, not merely tolerated

Despite dire predictions by the harbingers of doom
The sky won’t fall, the sun won’t fade and flowers won’t cease to bloom

No spiral into decadence, where degeneration thrives
Merely ordinary people living ordinary lives

Love liberates, not threatens; a blessing, not a crime
In Gough’s immortal words: Australia “It’s time”
