Bland On Bland – The BookThe theme for this week’s JVG Radio Method poem is “Silver“.

A complete departure today ( as you will hear ), when we got to the studio Peter “Dr Pump” Lawler and I discovered that we had decided to cover similar ground with this week’s themes. Obviously, the best thing to do was to combine forces.

So this week the backing and the awesome “outro” is by Peter “Dr Pump” Lawler… Enjoy ( I really did )

Silver

She lies motionless on the bed
distorted, savaged
propped by pillows carefully placed by loving carers
yet she is beyond comfort, beyond compassion, beyond hoping, beyond knowing, beyond waiting
her strong heart – a blessing in life and now a curse in this place beyond thought
B-BOOM, B-BOOM, B-BOOM
a daughter gently strokes her mother’s hair
perhaps, in some place immune to logic, her presence is felt
it matters not
true love demands neither reason nor acknowledgement
a son softly sings his mother’s favourite song, the song she danced to on her wedding day
‘Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine’
The irony passes unseen
B-BOOM, B-BOOM, B-BOOM
this strong heart
not the melancholy heart of poets and romantics – of love, of hate, passion, longing, desire
not the heart of the valiant, home to bravery, loyalty and sacrifice
nor the spiritual heart of philosophers and believers, of contemplation, illumination, reflection and redemption
merely heart the pump
unthinking, unfeeling, uncaring
B-BOOM, B-BOOM, B-BOOM
this strong heart, this cheating heart, now imprisons
‘Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine’
This heart asks for no mending
