The theme Jon chose for the JVG Radio Method today was “SITTING”.

This week finds me in Cornwall. The land of pasties, real ale and less than average telephones. I will be here for about a week or so and then on to Scotland.

SITTING

sitting at the lomond, chewing fat, drinking beer
barb waters sings her heart out from centre of the stage
some still lament the old pubs they knew in yesteryear
like a bird who pines the bars when they’ve lived too long in the cage

sitting in the dentist’s chair, the usual sense of dread
how eagerly and hungrily the drill seeks out decay
sitting by your mother, gently stroking her head
stunned at how benignly life can slip away

sitting in the garden with your daughter on your knee
finding wonder in a leaf that has long been lost to you
the child you never wished to have, the dad you never wished to be
thanking every god and star your wish did not come true

sitting in an office, sitting on a plane
sitting in the bath sipping champers with a friend
sitting on your pushbike, sitting on a train
sitting on the toilet reading last week’s “good weekend”

lying down is recommended when you’re sick, dead or sleeping
running when you’re late or bent on keeping fit
reclining for the lazy, push ups for the crazy
but standing’s what you do till you find a place to sit
